Amy B. Nguyen - Owner
Amy is a native Texan and was destined to go into the field of Geography. As a small
child, her job on family vacations was to read the map and make sure her parents
stayed on course as they drove from Texas to Wyoming. This early event led to a
lifelong love of maps.
After graduating with a degree in Physical Science from the University of Houston,
Amy embarked on a career which included working with the EPA in Texas, teaching
environmental education in Georgia schools, working as an analyst for Mapsco, Inc.
in Dallas, and working in the cable television industry in Flower Mound, Texas.
In 2006 she went back to school, obtaining a master’s level certification in GIS
from the University of Texas at Dallas where she studied under mentor Dr. Ronald
Briggs, now professor emeritus at UT Dallas. Shortly after finishing the program
she won a coveted ESRI Assistantship position to attend the ESRI International Users
Conference where she got to meet ESRI founder Jack Dangermond.
While putting herself through school, Amy worked part-time as a records clerk and research assistant to
noted forensic psychologist Mark D. Cunningham, Ph.D., ABPP. While there, she encountered
a client who moved frequently and was exposed to excessive crime at an early age.
Following a hunch that maps could show juries how a client’s environment impacted
their life, the idea for capital sentencing mitigation mapping was born. To date
the bulk of her practice is devoted to capital defense work.
A self-proclaimed geo-geek,
Amy has spent many years working with databases and is a specialist at data cleansing.
She also has extensive experience working with Census data. She is a member of URISA,
SCGIS, SCAUG, and NASAMS.
Amy has been married for 15+ years to Tony Nguyen, IT
Architect and consultant to Capital Maps. They reside in the Dallas, Texas area
where they enjoy traveling, hosting family cookouts, watching football and working
with dogs.
